BellyUp! St. Augustine / Over 50

Over 50 St. Augustine

Nobody publishes the noise level, and it is the thing that decides the night.

Good places to eat and drink in St. Augustine, minus the nightclubs. When a spot gets loud later or draws a lot of kids, the card tells you.

8 spots

Buena Onda Cafe

West Augustine · vegetarian, latin american, coffee

A family-run vegetarian cafe in the old Present Moment Cafe spot on West King Street, where most dishes can be made vegan and the soup always is. Scratch-made breakfast and lunch, specialty coffee, house ginger mint lemonade, and parking behind the building.

Crave

wraps, bowls, smoothies

A healthy fast kitchen that started as a food truck and now serves wraps, bowls and smoothies on King Street, with a second location on US-1 at State Road 312. Vegan items are named on the menu, down to a cashew queso and a house vegan Nutella.

Osprey Tacos

Anastasia Island · tacos

A laid-back taqueria on Anastasia Boulevard next door to Old Coast Ales, with made-to-order tacos and bowls and gluten-free and vegan options named on its own site.

Planet Sarbez

Davis Shores · grilled cheese

A craft beer and grilled cheese arcade bar just over the Bridge of Lions, with more than 35 machines from pinball to skee-ball, all on quarters, and a patio with bonfires when it cools off. Family friendly until 8 p.m., 18 and over until 10, then 21 and over, and there are no french fries, which it is not sorry about.

This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.

Purple Olive

Anastasia Island · new american, mediterranean

Chef Peter Kenney's restaurant spent 21 years on St. Augustine Beach before moving to Anastasia Island in 2025, into the remodeled Gypsy Cab Company building. The menu marks vegan and gluten-free dishes, and the kids menu is billed as Kids, Tweens & Teens.

The Floridian

St. Augustine Beach · southern, farm-to-table

Genie and Jeff McNally's farm-to-table Southern kitchen, founded downtown in 2010, reopened in 2026 in its own building on Old Beach Road. The menu names its farms and marks vegan and gluten-free plates, and tofu or tempeh goes on most of them.

The Manatee Cafe

West Augustine · vegetarian, organic

A mostly vegetarian cafe in Westgate Plaza on State Road 16, where owner and chef Michael Ugarte uses certified organic produce when available and swaps in vegan or gluten-free on request. It doubles as a community board, flyers welcome.

The Sprout Kitchen

Old City · plant-based, juice, bagels

The only fully plant-based kitchen in this roster: a cafe and juice bar using organic, non-GMO and local ingredients where it can, with cashew cream cheese and carrot lox on the bagels. Founder Chef Forrest Masters came up through the Present Moment Cafe and the Ann Wigmore institute.
