BellyUp! St. Augustine / Over 50

Over 50 St. Augustine

Nobody publishes the noise level, and it is the thing that decides the night.

Good places to eat and drink in St. Augustine, minus the nightclubs. When a spot gets loud later or draws a lot of kids, the card tells you.

11 spots

Aunt Kate's

Vilano Beach · seafood, minorcan, southern

Named for Catherine Usina, whose oyster roast for Henry Flagler's party in 1900 started a family tradition on the Tolomato River. The Usinas opened Aunt Kate's under the live oaks in 2009, boaters can tie up at the floating dock, and the steamed oysters and pilau are the family recipes.

Live music some nights. Go before the band starts if you want to talk.

Columbia Restaurant

Old City · spanish, cuban

The St. Augustine branch of the Columbia, the family group whose Tampa original has served since 1905 and bills itself as Florida's oldest restaurant. This one opened on St. George Street in 1983, and the rooms are the draw: hundreds of hand-painted tiles, a Spanish-style fountain, and private dining for groups of 10 to 200.

O'Steen's Restaurant

Davis Shores · seafood, southern

Open since 1965, cash only, no reservations, and famous for St. Augustine fried shrimp, nine or twelve to a plate with hush puppies. The menu has barely changed and many of the staff have been there more than 20 years, which is rather the point.

Ragga Surf Cafe

Lincolnville · breakfast, coffee, cafe

A surf cafe that started in Marineland in 2021 and moved to the San Sebastian marina in January 2025, serving breakfast and lunch from restored vintage vehicles with the marsh in view. The kids menu is called For the Groms, and the ice cream Airstream, Peace & Cream, shares the lot.

Raintree Restaurant

Uptown · mediterranean, american

The MacDonald family sailed from England on their own yacht in 1979, found this Victorian house on San Marco Avenue in 1980, and opened the Raintree in 1981. The founders' daughter and grandson still run it: dine in the Victorian rooms or the courtyard with its gazebos and koi fountain, and leave room for the dessert bar.

St. Augustine Distillery

Lincolnville

Founded by 20 local families in the 1907 FP&L ice plant, the first in Florida to make commercial block ice, where the old ice-can numbers are still visible on the rails during the tour. Bourbon, rum, gin and vodka, with tours and tastings seven days a week.

Sunset Grille

St. Augustine Beach · seafood, american

Two bartenders turned a former Phillips 66 station into a Key West style beach restaurant in 1990. The upstairs deck is open air, with fans in summer and heaters in winter, the chowder is a Great Chowder Debate regular, and the bar pours St. Augustine Distillery spirits.

The Conch House

Anastasia Island · seafood, southern

The Ponce family has run this spot on Salt Run since 1946, when the old Coast Guard gunnery station became a four-room hotel. Eat on the deck under a palm or in grass huts built over the water, walk-up only, with a 200-slip marina and live music on the Lounge Deck.

The Floridian

St. Augustine Beach · southern, farm-to-table

Genie and Jeff McNally's farm-to-table Southern kitchen, founded downtown in 2010, reopened in 2026 in its own building on Old Beach Road. The menu names its farms and marks vegan and gluten-free plates, and tofu or tempeh goes on most of them.

The Sprout Kitchen

Old City · plant-based, juice, bagels

The only fully plant-based kitchen in this roster: a cafe and juice bar using organic, non-GMO and local ingredients where it can, with cashew cream cheese and carrot lox on the bagels. Founder Chef Forrest Masters came up through the Present Moment Cafe and the Ann Wigmore institute.

Tradewinds Tropical Lounge

Old City

Open since 1945, owned by the Leonard family since 1961, and still pouring 365 days a year. Two merchant marine sailors shipped home the teak bar and the grinning idol behind it, its own history runs from Gamble Rogers to Jimmy Buffett, and the house drink arrives with its own thunder and lightning.

This is a music venue. It is loud when a show is on.
